The Political System of Puerto Rico

The political system of Puerto Rico is based on Democracy as in United States.  It is divided into three branches. The Executive which is composed by the governor and the cabinet, the legislative, which is composed by the legislator and the senators selected by the people, the Judicial system are the judges of the court of the legal system who are selected by the governor.  As I mentioned before the political system of Puerto Rico is a Democratic one and requires elections every four years. The system is divided  into three parties which are:

The New Progressive Party that was born officially on August 20, 1967 in an assembly that took place in the town of Carolina. The first purpose of the assembly was to dissolve the group of united statists, like they had promised to do 90 days before in the plebiscite.  The second purpose was the creation of a new political party .  Dr. Hernán Padilla presented  the resolution of creating a party that would defend the statehood for Puerto Rico .  In January 5,1968 the party receive the official certification of the election state controller.

The Popular Democratic Party that was founded in June 22, 1938 by Luis Muñoz Marin and the same day the name and the logo where inscribe in Barranquitas and Luquillo.  November 5, 1940 was the first time that the Popular Democratic Party  won the election .  This party made history in Puerto Rico because did not take money of any institution or personal donation to keep his values intact.  This party won the election five times on a row and still now one of the strongest party in Puerto Rico.

The Puertorricans Independent Party that was founded by Doctor Concepción de Gracia on October 20,1946  in Bayamón, Puerto Rico.  Like the name suggest this party was created to fight for the independent of  Puerto Rico .  This is the only party with the idea of independent that went to election .  The actual president of this party is Dr. Rubén Berrios Martínez.
