In India there are many festivals.  One of the most interesting and famous festivals of my country is called Diwali.  India is my country and I love my country a lot.  Diwali is celebrated by Hindus and is called the festivals of lights.  It has a symbol that represents victory of good over evil.  This is celebrated for the memory of Narahasura.  The Bhiman who was one of the pandavas killed by him.  This is  celebrated every month in Oct. and Nov. of the year.

One month before this is celebrated everyone starts to prepare for their big event.  On this day everyone gets up early in the morning for the big day.  First, people take oil baths and wears new clothevs. Everyone invites their loved ones, relatives, neighbors, and friends to their decorated lighthouses. We call this light deepam. The lights are turned on in every houses.  Sweets are made and are distributed among friends and relatives.  From early in the morning until the night, the fireworks are fired everywhere.  These sights of the  fireworks and the sounds of it make it even more exciting.  These sights present beautiful lights in the dark night.  Some like to gamble on this day.  Greetings are also send to friends and relatives.  On this night Hindus provide a puja, a sacrifice, for their goddess Lakshmi ,the goddess of wealth and prosperity.  Hindus believe and pray to their goddess to visit their lighted house.

In India Diwali is celebrated with great pleasure, joy and happiness.  The Diwali festival brings family and the community together.  Diwali in India has been celebrated for thousands of years.  In my country, almost the whole country celebrates and everybody gets involved.  It has been celebrated for many years and still will be forever.
