| Puerto Rico
In the year of 1942,
a sailor name Cristobal Colon discover the island of Puerto Rico.
Taino Indians, descendant from the Mayan and Aztecas were inhibiting the
island. Puerto Rico was name San Juan, then it was name Borriquen.
The population was mainly Indians, Tainos
and Caribes, this later group was a cannibal tribe. Later with the colonization
of Puerto Rico, Spain extinguished the Caribbean tribe totally. Much
later, African slaves were added to this varied civilization.
The first capital of Puerto Rico was
Caparra Terras under the control of Caudillo Juan Ponce De’ Leon, who was
appointed to this position by the Felipe II of Spain. Between the
years 1492 and 1560 Puerto Rico was the port of choice for many pirates
and out laws. The Caribbean was then a booming place of business
for any one. That is the main reason for many of the rich Black Caribbean
people. On this island and all down the Caribbean, many African slave cultures
melted into the very similar Tiano and Caribe Indian cultures, forming
what is today’s population. Our religion is mainly Catholic, but
many of the Africans believe in Santeria and voodoo.
We were a Colony of Spain until 1898
when EEUU declared war on Spain for the island of Puerto Rico. In
1952, we became citizens of the USA by the Agreement of E.L.A. which stands
for( Estado Libre Associado). Its President was Don Luis Muños Marin.
Today Puerto Rico is the only island in the Caribbean from which space
communication is monitored by the Space Stratospheric Communication Satellite
located in El Gato, Arecibo which is the largest space station in the world
of its kind.
Puerto Rico today is a very progressive
island that has some of the best schools for Mechanical Engineering, and
some of the research done at the island laboratories is among the very
best in its class. We are also blessed with having some of the best
and most beautiful women in the world, evidenced by the many Miss Puerto
Ricos who have won the Miss America Pageant. Today we are a country
who contemplates whether or not to become the 51st state.
