Growing
Up in Egypt
I was born in Cairo Egypt.
Egypt is one of the oldest countries in the world . A lot of people believe
my country is where civilization started . Cairo is the capital of Egypt.
Its population is roughly twelve million people. It is a very busy city,
much like NYC . Like NYC , it is known as the city that never sleeps day
and night. The streets are filled with people walking. Million of
cars, buses, and taxis fill the streets, so crossing can be very dangerous.
While NYC has a subway system, Cairo has electric buses, and a Tram system
.
One advantage about growing
up in Cairo is that everything was available to you day and night . A lot
of the smaller towns and villages do not have accesses to everything .
Their are two major universities
in Cairo . They are considered the biggest colleges in the Middle East
. They include a medical and engineering college . A lot of students from
around the world come to these universities for their education . We have
a lot of Catholic schools which are run by foreigners . Teachers come from
countries such as France, Germany, Italy, and Greece to teach the different
languages . These schools are very expensive, but like here the public
education is free.
There are two major
religions in Cairo. The Muslims and the Christians. There are a lot of
mosques and churches available to the people in the city. Some
churches are over two thousand years old and are visited by many.
Cairo has one of the largest zoos in the Middle East, with animals from
all around the world.
Most famous of all in Cairo are
our magnificent pyramids. This has been a major wonder of the world
for thousands of years . Alongside the pyramids is the sphinx , which was
built for the famous king Kafrah . Millions of people flock to our city
every year to see this wonder. Cairo has a lot of great museums hosting
some of the splendor of its history. South of Egypt are many
temples believed to be six or seven thousand years old. When first discovered,
they were filled with gold . This gold was sent to Cairo museums to be
seen by many. One of the temples is the great Ramses temple in honor of
King Ramses . He is believed to have fought with Moses .
Though growing up in Cairo I had all the luxuries
of a big city, also around me was the history of an ancient Egypt
which I never will never forget .
