 CHEJU
ISLAND IN KOREA The most famous things of Cheju island are in abundance: wind, stones, and women. Let's go the fantastic island. You'll indulge in romantics. What do you think about the fantastic island? Do you like to ride a horse? See beautiful flowers and the blue expanse of water? It's Cheju Island! Cheju Island is the largest and Southernmost island and one of nine provinces of Korea. Cheju island is city of travel, honeymoons, and a rest area. I had my honeymoon on Cheju Island. I took many photographs and recorded the scenery of Cheju Island. Sights on Cheju Island include Mt.Halla, women divers (or hanyo), the image of Tolharubang and tropical plants, especially tangerines. First, Mt.Halla is the highest mountain in the South Korea. Mt.Halla is 1,950m above sea level. There is an inactive volcano, but a long time ago, it had a lava bed. Nowadays, almost all tourists including honeymooners and foreigners who went to climb Mt.Halla. The top of the Mt.Halla has a large crater. It is shaped like a half moon. The weather of the Mt.Halla district is very capriciously. Second, woman divers, we called then hanyo. They dive to make a living by collecting seaweed and shellfish. They are traditional women of Cheju Island. They can even stay underwater about 10 minutes without oxygen masks. They always work in the sea with white baskets because they have to put the collected seaweed in the baskets. Third, the image of Talharubang or stone grandfathers which are block lava statues of kindly old men. These stone slates are believed to be ancient village guardian deities. If you want to have healthy body, wise children, and happiness, you have to touch the old man's nose and ears with your hands. Most Cheju people believed this mythological story. Maybe the old man give faith to them. I also have a photograph of the old man because I want to have wise children. Do you believe it or not? It depends on you. Fourth, the island has a subtropical marine climate. It has distinct seasons so the island has a lot of subtropical plants. Tangerines are the major agricultural product. Also the island has many horses and golf courses. I hope that Cheju Island will be the most famous city for sightseeing in the world. I believe that the island is blessed by God.  |
