BASANT

 Basant is the famous festival of kites.  The area in the Punjab near Lahore, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. Basant is the time when skies are covered with the beautiful and colorful kites.
The spring is when the trees are blooming and warm breezes are blowing that kite makers get busy. They bend splints of bamboo and glue brightly colored tissue-paper.They use different color  tissue-papers and make different designs or shapes of Everyone wants to participate in this festival.  Some people spend a lot of money,and time on basant.  The kites weapon is it’s “maanjha”.   The string is a coated with a the mixture of rice paste and ground glass.  This stregthens and renders it’s capability of cutting through an a hapless opponent’s maanjha.[string]
 Many people celebrate this day in the evening.  They put the lights on the rooves and also turned the music on very loud.  They compete to cut the other kite with their strengthened string.  When one party is succeeds in cutting the other  kite's string they shout loudly “boo katta”.[which means kites cut]

  On basant the boys,girls, men and women wear yellow dresses or shirts.  This is the sign and color of basant.   This is very joyful day and we look forward to next year.
